Let’s start with exploring Tableau Desktop start screen, whenever you open tableau desktop shortcut link which is on Desktop or start screen you will get the following screen
once you got, the Tableau Screen, you can find Menu Bar, Connect, Saved Data sources, Sample workbooks, Open and Discover sections. let’s see the functionality of each and every section.
Menu Bar – I will explain Menu Bar once We started connecting to Data Sources. Let’s see the other Sections in Detail
In Connect Section, you can see two options. One is “To a file” and Other is “To a Server”
Connect to a File:
In this section, you will find all the local file connections like excel, CSV, access DB, JSON file and much more
Connect to Server:
This section will help you connect to your servers where ur DB Hosted and Tableau have this feature where you can connect to 75 + Data Sources and much more to come. But you need a respective connector. For some connectors, you need a license.

Saved Data Sources:
If you are connecting same date source frequently and giving creds each and every time which is so hectic, then add the data source to saved data source which will be available in this section and saved data source contains
The sample workbooks containing excellent example material. Clicking on More Samples takes you to Tableau’s visual gallery on the web with even more example workbooks.
The Open section area saves the last 18 workbooks you’ve opened If you want to keep a workbook that you use frequently, hover over the workbook image and choose that will prevent the workbook from being cycled out of view. TO remove the saved workbooks from the start page click on the red X that appears when you hover over workbook’s image.
On the right side. Discover section area provides links to training videos and promotional materials.
